How Many ABA Therapists Should My Child Have?
Team Work Makes the Dream Work!
As a BCBA-owned ABA practice, we're incredibly passionate about creating an ABA therapy experience that truly empowers individuals and their families. With over 40 years of combined experience in the field (!!!), we understand firsthand the importance of collaboration and the incredible value a team-based approach brings to ABA therapy. That's why we thoughtfully build a team of highly skilled ABA therapists – also known as Behavior Technicians (BTs) at Ovation – for cases with more than four sessions per week.
A positive and engaging learning environment where a child feels comfortable and supported by their team of BTs is key to successful ABA therapy.
Why a Team Approach?
You might be wondering why we believe so strongly in having multiple BTs work with your child. Here are a few key reasons why this model is so close to our hearts and why we believe it fosters optimal learning and growth:
Generalization: Mastering Skills Across Environments and People
Learning a new skill is like learning a new dance. You need to practice those steps with different partners, in different settings, and to different music to truly master the rhythm. Similarly, in ABA therapy, generalization is key. By working with a variety of BTs, your child learns to apply their skills flexibly across different people, environments, and situations.
2. Engagement: Keeping the Therapy Dynamic Fun
We all know that variety keeps things interesting! Multiple BTs bring diverse perspectives, teaching styles, and personalities to each session, creating a more dynamic and engaging learning experience for your child. This approach also allows our BTs to learn from each other and expand their own skillset, ensuring your child receives the highest quality of care.
3. Consistency: Minimizing Disruptions and Maintaining Momentum
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. With a team of BTs, if one BT is unavailable due to vacation or illness, your child can continue their therapy sessions with their other BT - This may even allow for coverage of these sessions! This minimizes disruptions to your child's routine and ensures consistent progress towards their goals.
Commitment to Collaborative Care
We understand that every child is unique, and our team approach allows us to provide truly individualized care. By collaborating closely with your family and with each other, our BTs can tailor their approach to your child's specific needs and learning style, maximizing their progress and potential.
